Poodles are well-known for their beauty and their brain. They are one of the most popular dog breeds today and their excellent agility has also helped them gained a reputation for being talented show dogs. These natural born performers are often seen in circus shows and canine competitions. If you are a Poodle owner already, I’m sure that you can also agree with this!

Here are 5 fun facts about this chic breed that will make you love them…even more!

1. They are one of the most intelligent dog breeds

One of the most fascinating things about Poodles is not only do they have a pretty face, but they also have the brain of a geek. They’re very smart and can be easily trained.

I had a Toy Poodle named Mikey. He was very loving, curious, hyperactive and trainable. Mikey had some talents and skills of his own. He was able to unzip bags, jump really high, run very fast, walk on hind legs and even sing his favourite song, “Burn”, by Ellie Goulding!

2. They come in 3 sizes

The purebred big poodle dog portraitPoodles come in three different sizes: toy, miniature and standard. Toy Poodles usually stand up to 10 inches tall; Miniature Poodles on the other hand stand from 11 to 15 inches tall; Standard Poodles are usually taller than 15 inches.

Hence, size shouldn’t be a reason for you to not want to have them as a pet!

3. They are a hypoallergenic breed

What does this mean? It means that they are suitable for everyone including those with dog allergies; another good reason to consider them as a pet. They don’t really shed too — which means you won’t find overwhelming amount of hair on your couch or clothes.

Another wonderful thing about them is they don’t easily smell. Many dogs I had encountered had very strong odours especially after their outdoor playtime.

4. They’re great at what they do

Although Poodles are commonly associated to wealth and luxury, they were actually trained to work. These four-legged legs creatures are excellent swimmers. They were trained by hunters to retrieve ducks and birds from the water.

Many Poodles are also trained to be assistance dogs whereby they help people with disabilities to live more independently. Apart from that, Poodles are also known to have served in the military since the 17th century.

5. They make a great companion

Poodles make a great addition to the family. They are indeed a good friend too. So whenever you need a friend to accompany you in good and bad times, this is a dog breed that will be by your side, celebrating happiness with you or even licking your tears.

Poodles are typically extroverts. They like to be surrounded by people and even enjoy entertaining others. Basically they are always craving for attention. Their active and playful temperament make them fun to be with and they’re always eager to learn. They are protective of their family and make very good watchdogs too.

If you enjoy a great company, this dog breed is just right for you! 🙂
